War Story:
The 119th
AHC unit history states that while resupplying the 1st Bde, 4th Inf Div, two
miles west of LZ Challenge, WO1 Atwood piloted Gator 408 through sporadic bursts
of .51 cal fire. One round penetrated the vertical fin narrowly missing the 90
degree gear box and the tail rotor control cables. The aircraft was landed at LZ
Challenge and later flown back to the Golf Course. WO1 Reipe, SP4 Maestas and
SP4 Broadston were the other members of the crew
